Blue Circle, Michelin form tyre recovery partnership

Blue Circle Cement and Michelin Tyre are establishing a joint venture, Sapphire Energy Recovery, to prepare scrap tyres for use as fuel in cement kilns. By 2003, Blue Circle says it will be able to use half of the 468,000 tonnes currently scrapped in the UK each year as a replacement for coal and petroleum coke.
