Agency reports progress on effluent toxicity assessment

A programme to demonstrate the role of toxicity tests in controlling the environmental impact of effluents has come up with some surprising findings, according to the Environment Agency. One major test site on the river Aire is to be dropped from the programme after toxicity in the river was found not to be linked to direct local effluent inputs. Other results highlight the potential importance of chronic toxicity tests still under development.
