Meacher increases interim packaging recovery targets

Tougher targets for recovery and recycling of packaging waste for 1999 and 2000 were announced by Environment Minister Michael Meacher in late January.1 To reassure industry that the regulations are being enforced rigorously, the environment agencies will be required to publish details of their monitoring programmes twice a year. Meanwhile, packaging converters may see two percentage points knocked off their share of the packaging chain's total obligation.
