Waste industry reluctant to fund "flushing bioreactor" landfill
Landfill sites engineered to stabilise within 50 years are "practically achievable", according to the final report of an Institute of Wastes Management (IWM) working group on the "flushing bioreactor" concept.1 But the waste industry remains deeply sceptical and is unlikely to take up the group's key recommendation to fund a full-scale demonstration project.
