Back to the future on sustainable development

A familiar tune was being heard around Whitehall following the publication of the Government's new strategy for sustainable development (see pp 17-20 ). As with both the strategy's 1994 predecessor and the 1990 White Paper on the environment, those disappointed with the content were told to consider that it was the process of putting the documents together which had been at least as important for the longer term.
