UK Waste's "duty of care" conviction
Leading waste management firm UK Waste has been prosecuted for dispatching drums of waste which it described as low-hazard cosmetics - but which turned out to be highly flammable "special" waste. The case attracted an unusually low fine of £1,000. Meanwhile, another big waste firm, Waste Recycling Group, has been fined £8,000 for illegal disposal of clinical waste.
