Sixteen years on, Agency discovers new risks at Eastern Counties Leather
People living in homes close to the Eastern Counties Leather (ECL) factory in Cambridgeshire may be at risk from solvent vapours, the Environment Agency has discovered - 16 years after contamination of groundwater in the area was first identified. Officers studying the pollution did not consider the possibility of vapour hazards until funding for a detailed risk assessment became available in 1997.
