Better sewage treatment needed to eliminate oestrogenic effects in fish
Leading scientists have warned the water industry that it will need to improve sewage treatment to protect fish from oestrogenic effects. The researchers found that domestic sewage effluents need at least a four-fold dilution to reduce oestrogenicity to undetectable levels - but because of the low level of dilution available in many rivers, better methods of sewage treatment will be the only long-term solution. 1
