Regulation of releases of GM micro-organisms under fire
A new front was opened in the genetic modification debate in June with the publication of a report by campaign group GeneWatch on releases of GM micro-organisms (GMMs) into the environment. 1 The report is highly critical of the effectiveness and transparency of the regulatory regime for GMMs, and recommends that responsibility for controlling releases should be shifted from the Health and Safety Executive to the Environment Agency.
