"Predict and provide" waste strategy points to incineration

A "predict and provide" waste management strategy could lie around the corner as planners in the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions (DETR) grapple with long-term forecasts of waste arisings. They are trying to work out how many incineration plants might be needed to comply with forthcoming landfill restrictions under EC legislation. The DETR is lending support to the idea that as many as 177 new incinerators might be needed by 2020 - but evidence to support such claims is extremely thin on the ground.
