Disputes over ELVs, GMOs overshadow Environment Council
Controversies over draft Directives on recovery of end-of-life vehicles and the deliberate release of genetically manipulated organisms into the environment dominated the EC Environment Council on 24-25 June. But the meeting was a success in reaching political agreement on no fewer than six legislative proposals which will shortly go to the European Parliament for a second reading, and also in setting out a framework for the development of a new EC chemicals strategy.
