Approvals for lindane tightened

Pressure from Europe has led the Government to tighten approval conditions on the organochlorine pesticide lindane. The Ministry of Agriculture announced in June that use of the compound in seed treatments was to be banned immediately - reducing agricultural usage in the UK by about 50%. Tighter controls on spray applications to soil and turf were also imposed.
