The Drinking Water Inspectorate's latest annual report shows that compliance with water quality standards in England and Wales reached 99.78% in 1998 - a slight improvement on the previous year. 1 Incidents involving the supply of discoloured water increased - and despite a restructuring the DWI is struggling to investigate them all.
