"Green electricity" accreditation launched into murky waters

The Energy Saving Trust (EST) has launched its Future Energy accreditation scheme to support the marketing of "green tariffs" for electricity from renewable sources. Eleven major suppliers have been accredited - but the Renewable Energy Company, a leading supplier, has refused to sign up. The scheme highlights doubts over the true benefits of green tariffs and their links with future official support mechanisms for renewables.
