Building material profiles launched by BRE

A methodology for establishing and displaying the environmental performance of building materials and components throughout their life cycles, known as environmental profiles, was launched by the Building Research Establishment in June following a three-year project part-funded by the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions (ENDS Report 255, pp 26-27 ). Together with a database containing hundreds of profiles available as an internet subscription service, it will allow designers to compare the impacts of different design options for buildings or components such as roofs, and enable manufacturers to improve their products.
