Government bails out Agency over waste licensing fiasco

More than 200 waste disposal sites have been operating illegally - and mistakenly paying inspection fees and landfill tax - because the Environment Agency has allowed old waste licences to pass their expiry date. The Government has bailed out the Agency by amending the Pollution Prevention and Control Bill to bring such sites back under control - and to prevent operators from walking away from aftercare responsibilities.
