Lords attack lack of strategic thinking on waste
Lack of strategic planning is the key obstacle to technical progress in the UK waste management industry, according to a report by the House of Lords Select Committee on the European Communities. 1 The Committee also dismisses official forecasts that up to 177 new incinerators may be needed in the UK to comply with targets set by the EC landfill Directive as a "wholly unsatisfactory" basis for forward planning and investment.
