Lords call for urgent action to deliver renewable energy targets
The Government will fall far short of its renewable energy target for 2010 without urgent reform of energy and planning policies, according to a report by the House of Lords Select Committee on the European Communities. 1 The report proposes replacing the non-fossil fuel obligation (NFFO) mechanism with an auction of electricity from "green" sources. Renewables developers favour placing an obligation on electricity suppliers, backed by trading in green energy certificates.
