Biocides industry prepares for costly regulatory regime

Proposals to implement last year's EC Directive on biocides were published by the Health and Safety Commission (HSC) on 2 July. 1 The new regime looks set to cost the biocides industry at least a tenth of its turnover in the next decade - significantly more than earlier official estimates. The proposals have left opaque the HSC's intentions for applying the "comparative assessment" principle - a novel feature of EC chemicals policy.
