New bid to put sustainable consumption on the agenda

Two international initiatives to put sustainable consumption high on the agenda for the next Earth Summit in 2002 are to be launched this autumn. The Oxford Commission on Sustainable Consumption will hold its first meeting in September. And plans are being developed by the London-based International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED) for a partnership of developed and industrialising nations to accelerate international co-operation in developing more sustainable consumption patterns.
