Environment on the agenda at international trade talks

Environmental concerns are likely to feature prominently in the millennium round of international trade negotiations which begins in November, despite opposition from developing countries. The European Commission has called for sustainable development to be a "central benchmark" of the negotiations. But conflicts are looming between the US and EC over genetically modified food and electronic equipment recycling.
