NEC develops "environmentally friendly" flame retardants

Japanese electronics giant NEC has developed a plastic and an epoxy resin which dispense with the need for brominated or phosphorus-based flame retardants. The company has sold the manufacturing licences to Sumitomo Dow, and hopes that demand from other companies will bring down the production costs.
