Risk reduction strategy proposed for NP, NPEs
A report on ways of controlling the environmental impacts of nonyl phenol (NP) and nonyl phenol ethoxylates (NPEs) has recommended curbs on their marketing and use in the sectors responsible for major discharges - industrial cleaning, textiles, leather and agriculture. The study, commissioned by the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions (DETR), also advocates control of discharges from sectors of the chemical industry under integrated pollution prevention and control (IPPC) regime, and a final tier of protection through environmental quality standards (EQSs).
