FoE report urges integration of social and environmental policies

Environmental policies - particularly those designed to reduce resource consumption - must be carefully designed not to worsen the plight of the poor, according to a Friends of the Earth (FoE) report. 1 The study argues that the rural poor must be protected from the impact of the road fuel duty escalator - but the Government's leading transport adviser has gone further, suggesting that the escalator be put into reverse.
