Concerted action to reduce traffic emissions could achieve existing air quality objectives even in the most polluted urban areas, according to a report for the Environment and Trade and Industry Departments. 1 Alternative vehicle fuels and low-emission zones were found to be the most effective ways of reducing air pollution - though measures to restrict traffic offered wider benefits.
