Waste managers get long-awaited guidance on development planning

Long-awaited guidance on waste management planning in English local authorities was issued by the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions (DETR) in September. 1 The document, providing a link between the forthcoming national waste strategy and development planning, appears to permit local authorities to restrict disposal or incineration capacity where they are "confident" that alternatives will become available.
