A Whitehall row over the funding of local authority waste services entered the public domain in December when a senior official revealed that the Treasury is disputing spending assessments projected by the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions (DETR). Meanwhile, environmental charity Waste Watch has launched a report claiming that municipal waste recycling could create 45,000 jobs.
