DTI may implement EC rules on misleading food packaging

After almost two decades, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) may finally implement a requirement of the 1979 EC Directive on food labelling to protect consumers from labelling and packaging which misleads the consumer about the quantity of product. Several food sectors are drawing up voluntary guidelines to spell out the implications for members. The move may also help to minimise packaging waste.
