Aldermaston weapons site fined for secret radioactive discharge

The operating company of the Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE) at Aldermaston has been fined £17,500 for an illegal discharge of radioactive effluent - and for misleading the Environment Agency over the existence of the release. The Agency is now proposing to call a halt to the site's liquid radioactive discharges within five years.
