Director of chemical firm fined and disqualified for IPC offence

The managing director of an Essex chemical company has been fined £2,500 and disqualified as a director for four years after operating a process without an integrated pollution control (IPC) authorisation. The breach came to light following an incident which endangered employees and caused a significant quantity of mercury to escape to controlled waters.
