British Steel fined £7,500 for coolant spill

British Steel lost a court battle on 30 November over pollution from its Seaton Carew pipeworks near Hartlepool. Hartlepool magistrates found the company guilty of causing polluting matter to enter the Stell watercourse in July 1998, contrary to section 85 of the Water Resources Act 1991.
