Electronics recycling scheme drops monopoly plans

PRIMER, the embryonic scheme for electronics recycling, has dropped plans to act as a monopoly and fund recycling through a point-of-sale levy on new products. Its revised plans suggest charging members on a "pay as you go" basis, with businesses free to absorb recovery costs and set product prices accordingly.
