Proposed EC priority list for hazardous substances in water

A first draft priority list of 34 hazardous substances to be regulated under the forthcoming EC framework Directive on water resources has been submitted to the European Commission by consultants. A legislative proposal is expected shortly from the Commission - but the list is bound up in a wider dispute about whether the Directive should transpose a European marine pollution agreement requiring efforts to cease all discharges of priority substances by 2020.
