  • The Department of Trade and Industry has given the go-ahead to British Sugar's proposed gas-fired combined heat and power plant at Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk - the first gas-fired plant to be approved since the Government announced a moratorium in November (ENDS Report 276, pp 14-16 ). The 80MW plant, achieving 80% efficiency, will replace steam and electricity from existing fuel oil and gas-fired facilities.
