  • Hartlepool magistrates have fined Eastman Chemical £10,000 with £1,788 costs for failing to prevent the loss of a radioactive source, contrary to section 32(1)(b) of the Radioactive Substances Act 1993. The source, which was used for measuring the density of chemical paste, was found to be missing following an Environment Agency audit of the company's factory in Hartlepool.
