Lords support cuts in biodegradables in landfill

The amount of biodegradable waste sent to landfill should be reduced significantly, according to a report by the House of Lords Select Committee on the European Communities.1 But the Committee has sided with the Government in its efforts to negotiate a less demanding timetable than that proposed by the European Commission in its draft landfill Directive. The report also questions the case for the proposed co-disposal ban.
