ICI fined £300,000 for major chloroform spill
ICI Chemicals & Polymers has been fined £300,000 - the second largest fine ever imposed for an environmental offence in the UK - for a major chloroform spill at its Runcorn works in Cheshire. The release, attributed by the court to "inadequate risk assessments", has added to the severe contamination of groundwater on the site.
