Common law right to collect from foreshore

A recent decision of the High Court of Northern Ireland has explored the obscure principles of common law relating to the public right to fish on the foreshore. The Court concluded that common law rights pay little regard to contemporary environmental concerns about resource depletion and ecological impacts, but any reform will have to be achieved by legislation rather than by the courts.
