Power station limits face the chop under coal industry rescue deal

The Government is contemplating scrapping emission limits on coal-fired power stations in a bid to prop up the beleaguered coal industry. Environment Ministers favour requiring PowerGen or Eastern Group to fit flue gas desulphurisation (FGD) equipment to one or more stations. Their success in convincing other Ministers will be a key test of Labour's environmental credentials.
