Water companies contemplate a future without chlorine

Concern over disinfection by-products in drinking water will lead to less use of chlorine, a conference of water industry specialists heard in April. In the longer term, customer preferences may drive water companies towards totally chlorine-free treatment - a system which has become the norm in the Netherlands.
