Environmental reporting challenge as EMAS enters second wave
UK businesses have been relatively slow to seek registration under the EC's eco-management and audit scheme (EMAS). But corporate interest is beginning to pick up, and the Government will soon be challenging top companies to sign up. Meanwhile, an official study has shown that the environmental statements produced to date by registered companies have often lacked information required by law - failings which will not necessarily be any easier to correct following the transfer of the UK's "competent body" to the private sector.
