Green groups clash with Agency over nuclear waste dump
Environmental groups have told a House of Lords inquiry that indefinite surface storage is the best option for dealing with radioactive waste - and said they would refuse to take part in "sham" efforts to build a consensus in favour of underground disposal. The Environment Agency insists that an underground repository is the most sustainable option - but has clashed with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) over regulatory responsibility for the design and operation of such a facility.
