Government seeks gradual shift to water metering

A gradual move towards water metering is proposed in a consultation paper on water charging in England and Wales.1 Customers with garden sprinklers or swimming pools face compulsory metering, but companies could continue charging for unmeasured domestic supplies on the basis of rateable values after 2000.
