UK leads effort to integrate transport and environment policies
The first serious attempt to integrate the EC's transport and environment policies began at an informal joint Council of Transport and Environment Ministers in Chester on 25 April. Policy in the transport sector is currently fixed on achieving environmental benefits by improving the efficiency of transport systems - but, as a recent European Commission paper has shown, faces formidable challenges if it is to contribute to the goal of reducing carbon dioxide emissions.
