Eastern Group, Britain's fourth biggest electricity generator, has announced plans to enter the wind energy market with a 1MW wind turbine to be installed in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. The £800,000 project is the company's first step towards meeting its commitment that 10% of its generating capacity will be supplied by renewable sources by 2010. The turbine will be supplied by UK company Renewable Energy Systems, and will be operated on Eastern's behalf by wind farm contractor B9 Energy.
