Toxic gas release leads to £18,000 fine for PVC producer

European Vinyls Corporation (EVC) has been fined £18,000 after a release of vinyl chloride monomer (VCM), a carcinogenic gas, from its Sully plant in South Wales. Operators failed to take all necessary measures to prevent overpressurisation of a reactor - influenced in part by the firm's desire to maintain productivity.
