Chemical industry progresses,but ducks Minister's challenge

The chemical industry made further slight improvements in its environmental performance last year, according to a report from the Chemical Industries Association (CIA). However, three in ten sites still lack a formal environmental management system (EMS), and the CIA has no plans to accept an official challenge to set a target to increase the number of firms with a certified EMS.
