Agency acts on odour problems at Biffa and 3C landfills

Environment Agency investigations have confirmed that odour problems at two south Wales landfills are linked to exceptionally high levels of hydrogen sulphide (H2S) in landfill gas - almost certainly caused by thousands of tonnes of calcium sulphate wastes deposited between 1994 and 1997. At one site the Agency has demanded improvements to gas controls that will cost £1.6 million.
