Consensus grows in EC for an integrated product policy
The European Commission looks set to develop a policy framework for addressing the environmental effects of products . The move may have profound long -term effects on product design as greater account is taken of the need to minimise resource consumption , avoid hazardous substances , prolong product life and aid reuse and recycling . A workshop on an EC products policy is to be held in Brussels later this year - and Germany may make it a key theme of its EC Presidency in the first half of 1999.
