Aggregates tax to hit industrial uses of minerals

A Customs & Excise consultation paper on the practicalities of an aggregates tax is set to attract objections from industries beyond quarrying by proposing that some minerals extracted from aggregates quarries but used in industry should also be taxed.1 The paper may open a rift in the quarrying industry by inviting views on whether different tax rates should be set for rock and sand and gravel.
